Bridgeton Adopts Comprehensive Plan Update

The Bridgeton Township Supervisors voted unanimously at the August meeting to accept the Comprehensive Plan Update that the Bridgeton Planning Commission has worked so diligently on for the last 4 years. This is an update to the 1994 edition of the Comprehensive Plan.

A comprehensive plan is a municipality’s official public document that serves as a policy guide to decision making in a community. It is an explicit statement of a community’s future goals and vision, to be used by the Bridgeton Township Planning Commission and the Bridgeton Township Board of Supervisors, as well as private stakeholders and regional, state, and federal entities.

COMMUNITY SURVEY
In September 2022, an online resident survey was announced on the township’s website, and the survey was circulated around social media. Physical copies of the survey were placed at the Upper Black Eddy
Post Office, Homestead General Store, and the Bridgeton Township Municipal Building. The community survey helped to provide a clear direction in the development of the plan principles. In this survey,
residents were able to rank issues that were important to them, rate their quality of life in the township, identify the township’s assets and concerns, and answer a set of open-ended questions, such as:

Why did you move to Bridgeton?
Do you plan on retiring in Bridgeton? Why or why not?
Do you enjoy living in Bridgeton? Why or why not?
What do you envision for the future of the township?

Several themes emerged from this result:

  • Desire to preserve the rural character of the area
  • Worries of road noise and traffic congestion along main roads
  • Importance of neighbors and supporting the local community
  • Enjoyment of the natural beauty and harmony of the area
  • Access and proximity to other areas, services, and amenities

Many thanks to the Bridgeton Planning Commission:
