Summary
PennDOT commenced major reconstruction operations on Bridgeton Hill Road early this morning, July 30, 2026. Bridgeton Hill Road is closed to all thru traffic. The closure is projected to remain in effect for approximately two (2) weeks.
Incident Management & On-Site Assessment
The Bridgeton Township Emergency Management Coordinator was on-site at Bridgeton Hill Road this morning and met extensively with PennDOT project management. PennDOT has designated this emergency repair as a high-priority project due to severe road damage spanning the entirety of the hill.
Crews and heavy construction equipment are actively deployed on-site executing the following tasks:
- Clearing and unblocking drainage infrastructure up and down the hill.
- Clearing brush, debris, and obstructions along the rights-of-way.
- Evaluating existing guardrail integrity and safety standards.
- Digging up sections of the road surface to replace multiple sub-surface drainage pipes.
- Continuously assessing structural road damage along the entire corridor to adjust the work plan as conditions dictate.
Traffic Control Directive & Public Safety Notice
Motorists are strictly prohibited from bypassing closure signs. Physical barriers are established within the work zone. Vehicles attempting to bypass closure points will encounter these physical obstructions and will be forced to turn around.
The roadway is completely impassable to thru traffic due to open excavations and heavy equipment operations. Please plan alternative travel routes and allow additional travel time.
