Planning Commission seeks new member

Bridgeton Township is accepting applications from those residents interested in volunteering to serve on the five-member Bridgeton Township Planning Commission. Planning Commission members are appointed by the Board of Supervisors for a term of 2 years and may be reappointed.

The Planning Commission is a volunteer-based advisory body, appointed by Bridgeton Township Board of Supervisors. It reviews and recommends actions on land development, subdivision, and zoning matters. The Planning Commission works under the guidelines of the Pennsylvania Municipal Planning Code (MPC) to ensure development aligns with the township’s Comprehensive Plan.

The Commission generally meets on the second Wednesday of each month in person and on zoom.

 Key Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Advisory Capacity:  The commission serves in an advisory role, making recommendations to the Board of Supervisors on various planning, zoning and development issues.
  • Plan Review:  The commission reviews and makes recommendations on land development and subdivision applications that have been submitted to the Township, ensuring they conform with Bridgeton Township’s long-term planning objectives and ordinances.
  • Comprehensive Plan & Ordinances:  The commission is responsible for periodically updating the township’s Comprehensive Plan, zoning ordinance, and subdivision and land development ordinances.
  • Community Vision:  The commission develops and promotes a shared vision for Bridgeton Township’s physical development and  balanced community growth.
  • Oversight of Development:  The commission provides input on issues such as new construction, zoning regulations, and open space preservation to guide orderly development.

Bridgeton Townships seeks a resident with experience in contributing positively in committee or other group settings.

Experience as an attorney, architect, engineer or planner is a plus, though not a requirement.

Candidates should have no potential conflicts of interest with the Township (that is, they do not anticipate bringing a project before the Planning Commission or Zoning Hearing Board or objecting to a currently planned or anticipated project).
