The permanent repairs of the collapsed 1840 High Falls Arch under the Delaware Canal are proceeding quickly, with half of the steel insert already in place, according to Rick Dalton, Superintendent of the Delaware Canal State Park.

The steel insert will be used to provide structural integrity, but the exposed portions of the tunnel will retain the aesthetic and historical stone work. The initial plan called for a temporary structure, but some creative engineering and planning have allowed the park to bypass that step. The existing, historical head wall stonework, as see in these photos, will not be affected, said Superintendent Dalton.
